Who We Are
Old South Tour Co. was founded in February 2004 by a young college student, Katie Stewart. Katie grew up in Southport and always had a thirst for the local lore and history. She graduated with her degree in history from the University of NC at Wilmington with an emphasis on Southern Antebellum history and NC history. She minored in oral interpretation of literature and sociology. While still in college and dreading the typical summer jobs, she decided to put her theatrical background to use, and thus Old South Tour Co. was born! Less than one month after its humble beginnings, WWAY News Channel 3 took her very first tour and ran it on the 6:00pm news! In addition to her regular tours, Katie often does tours for school groups and private organizations, and has also been invited to give talks at the local schools. You can meet Katie on the waterfront prior to tours, just look for the Southern Belle!
About the Tour
Old South Tour Company's lantern-led Ghost Walk Tour has been a fan favorite since 2004. Join us for a family-friendly, spine tingling 60-minute encounter with the restless spirit world that is Southport. You will hear chilling stories of specters and haunts and learn about the rich and sometimes little known history of the Southport area. These tours are based on facts from historical records, as well as local folklore passed down through generations. We invite you and your family to come and get acquainted with the night!
